(i’m making this to motivate and remind myself, but please feel free to add to it if you like)
- clean your room. put on some loud tunes or that playlist you haven’t listened to for a few years. relax into those memories and get busy.
- organise your bookshelf. by colour, title, dewey decimal system - i don’t care. just get some order happening. look at how many books you have !! so nice. the whole world should see this.
- if you have a surplus of tea, make a little home for it somewhere. display it. that shit is beautiful and deserves to be seen.
- have any craft projects you’ve been neglecting ? get cracking on those ! small starts are better than no starts.
- put up that artwork/those photos/polaroids/cards/pressed flowers/etc. that you’ve been meaning to. put them on your walls, your door, on your pinboard, peg them on some string - go for your life.
- hang all your clothes up !! get them right up off of the floor and back hanging (or alternatively, folded) where they belong.
- laundry. d o y o u r l a u n d r y.
- make your bed with fresh sheets and fresh covers !
- clean your surfaces. get rid of those crumbs/various stains/hairs/loose tobacco/diaries/books back where they belong and make those surfaces shiny and new.
- fix any lightbulbs you’ve been putting off !
- open your blinds - let in some light and feel open to the world again.
- file any paperwork/write letters/pay bills. boring and painful but once they’re done, you can sit back and relax the hell out.
- get rid of any plates/cups/alcohol bottles/etc. keeps away the bugs and keeps your mind off of food.
- light a candle or five ! nothing better than a room which smells amazing.
- start a small garden ! a herb garden, maybe a few peonies, whatever you like. maybe even consider branching out and starting a terrarium or five !
- got any friends with birthdays coming up ? christmas presents you haven’t gotten round to ? find some ideas browsing online, on pinterest etc. - make some lovely D.I.Y. presents :)
- find an old hobby you’ve abandoned for a while. for me, it’s writing. get back into it as best you can. rekindle your old love for it.
- text someone or call them and let them know how important they are to you and how glad you are that they’re in your life. or if you’re struggling, reach out and let someone know.
- take a nice bath or shower and actually focus on cleaning yourself. scrub your face and body, brush your teeth, shampoo and conditioner your hair, put on a face mask, try out that product you’ve been meaning to forever but still haven’t.
- if you roll your cigarettes like I do, pre-roll a whole bunch and pop them in a case/compartment of some kind to save you from doing it later. (then maybe go have a cathartic smoke).
- is there a mirror or painting or board you’ve been meaning to put up on a wall somewhere ? go ahead and do it ! no time like the present.
- book tickets to that show/concert/gallery/exhibition/tour/trip you’ve been saving for. you goddamn deserve it. plus, that can serve as more motivation later on.
- learn new skills. I like revising first aid, or crocheting, or badge making, or flower pressing. there’s so much to do.
- nap. sleep. rest your body.
- drink a whole lotta water (but not too much at once, be sensible). make some water to store in the fridge with lemons, berries and the like for later.
- get rid of any clutter and trash surrounding you that you don’t need.
- treat yourself as gently as you can. if you feel like you’ve ‘fucked up’, if you feel disgusting and terrible and fat and useless and all of those things, don’t act out because of it. you are fine, and you are you, and that is a beautiful thing. tomorrow will come and it will be wonderful and a new chance to start again. you will be okay.
